Welcome! Contrary to what you may have heard, New York State is teaming with wildlife. Over 250 species of birds, 165 fish, 69 Reptiles and amphibians, 60 mammals, and countless invertebrates call New York home. And while New York State is home to the largest park in the continental US, you might be surprised at the diversity of species seen here in backyards of the United States' largest city.

It's no surprise New York is home to one of the world’s largest and most reputable conservation organizations, the best wildlife/forestry programs, and an active DEC ripe with opportunities to participate in citizen science. No matter what state you live in, if you're into wildlife, you might wanna get into NY too!

The inspiration for this site was the Roosevelt Wildlife Collection at SUNY ESF in Syracuse, NY. Instead of a physical collection of specimens, the goal of this site is to have a digital collection representing the diversity of wildlife across the state.
